Pioneers Look to Snap a Two-game Losing Streak

GALLATIN, TENNESSEE — The Volunteer State Community College Pioneers (1-3) will be hosting the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers (1-0) tonight at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the second game of a six-game home stand for Vol State this month following the loss on Saturday (82-64).  The Pioneers also have their first conference opponent (Columbia State Community College) visiting Friday at 5:30 p.m.

"Tonight I think that we can play with the same intensity we had on Saturday against Wallace. Northeast is no easy opponent; they're ranked the preseason twenty-fifth team in the nation.  They have four starters returning from last season," said head coach Rusty Melvin.

Coming into Pickel Field House the Tigers have one win in the basket defeating Faith Preparatory Academy (95-76) Nov. 6.  So far this season the top scorer for the Tigers is sophomore JaQuante Bell with 16 points.

"We are playing one of the best teams from Mississippi tonight for sure.  We practiced last night and the thing we worked on most was pick and rolls.  We added what is called a slip pick.  As a pick is set now that player will peel off and go to the basket," said Melvin.

The Pioneers will look to snap a two-game losing skid tonight after losing to Vincennes and Wallace State in the previous week.

Tonight the game will be aired on the college radio Station 88.5 WVCP and live updates will be tweeted on Twitter @VSCCPioneersMBB.  Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m. tonight.  Be sure to tune in.
