Pioneers Lose on Last Second Shot

Vol State was down by 13 points at the half but rallied and held Cleveland State to 22 second half points.  Davion Moses grabbed a rebound with 5.4 seconds left and tried to call a timeout but to no avail and passed it up to midcourt.  As Coach Melvin was trying to call a timeout, the ball was passed across court and stolen for the game winning one-half court shot with 2.1 seconds left to beat the Pioneers 67-64.

Vol State suffered a big loss early in the game when Brennon Marsh was elbowed and suffered a broken nose.  Brennon had just come off a 10 pt, 15 rebound night in the win against Gadsden State.  Behind Davion Moses 12 points, 8 rebounds and a perfect 6-6 at the foul line and Jaylen Clemmons (Ensworth HS) 16 pts and 4 steals, the Pioneers rallied to bring the game down to the wire.  Other players contributing were Terrance Cross 16 points and 8 rebounds, Antuan Rhodes 10 points, and Peyton West 16 points.  Coach Melvin stated, "We really played hard the second half and the reserves played a big role.  Depth is coming.  Our three-point shooting (2-21) helped ruin the evening, also."

Next up for the Pioneers is an away game against Dyersburg State on Wednesday, November 17.  They will take on Motlow State at home on Saturday, November 20.
